So, we just found out today Rett is being dropped from Matt's insurance. They changed dependent eligibility requirements in Jan. 0f 2008 to state they must be claimed on the current year's tax refund to qualifiy as a dependent. Nevermind the fact there is a court order stating that Steve gets to claim him every other year. The only course of action we have right now is to put him on Steve's insurance (which they assure me he still has even though he is laid off). Then after that, we can see if Steve will let us claim him all the time. My thing is.....they both work at Chrysler, so either way he is covered under Chrysler's policy!!! What difference should it make?!?!?! Not to mention the fact that Steve is so hard to get ahold of. Is he really going to get me the insurance card; he's on a different plan than we are, so are we going have to switch doctors? What about all the claims from Jan until now, are we going to have to pay?? I am SO frustrated right now, and so is Matt. He's already unhappy with his job and this is just the icing on the cake.
Sorry to vent, but this is just frustrating.
*hugs* Take a deep breath, sis. Insurance companies are such a pita to deal with. You might have Matt check with his benefits specialist there at the plant as well as his union steward. When we had an issue with Randy's insurance, those 2 were able to get through doors at the insurance company that we weren't able to.
ReplyDeleteMy personal opinion is that with all the joint custodies out there now, it seems a bit realistic to do insurance this way.
The benefits rep at work was the one telling him this. He came home and called the benefits office himself and the guy there said I had sent the wrong part of the tax return. (I sent the diagnostic report from the preparer that had the dependents listed instead of the 1040) He is sending an appeal that we should get in 2 days. He said to send that paper along with the 1040 forms and that should be all that we need. Crossing my fingers XXXX
ReplyDeleteFingers, toes, legs, eyes, and everything else crossed for you here... as well as some prayers going up :) Keep the faith, sis... everything will be ok!
ReplyDeleteI feel you pain. Insurace companies suck! Hopefully everything will turn out okay.
